top ten update

Not much change this week–just a new Ciara that sounds a lot like the old Ciara, which isn’t that old a Ciara since it’s still in the top ten with the new Ciara. Meanwhile, Usher and Alicia Keys remain in the top spot, melismalizing to each other about their Boo. That makes six weeks now, and Usher has been at number one more weeks in a single year than anybody in the history of the pop chart. In terms of chart success, only one person has him beat: yes, you guessed it, Eddy Arnold, who spent 38 weeks in 1948 at number one on the country chart. Eddy went on to chart in 6 different decades (his last hit was a duet with LeAnn Rimes in 1999). I wouldn’t bet on Usher to beat that record, either, though a duet with LeAnn probably isn’t beyond him.

Joseph Drouhin 2004 Beaujolais Nouveau

We are just back from a weekend in Seattle, where we visited with all available family and friends and stocked up on necessary supplies at Trader Joe’s, Seattle Restaurant Supply, and Esquin. This being November, it’s time again for Beaujolais Nouveau, that young fun light and fruity red that’s a mere 6 weeks post-harvest.

We bought 4 bottles at Esquin, 2 each of Joseph Drouhin, 1 of Terre Doree L’Ancien, and 1 of Pierre Something (I’ll correct when we drink it). We’ve had the Joseph Drouhin for 2 years running and have found it excellent. No change for this year. I’m looking at a glass right now, and it’s a lovely red raspberry color. The nose is cheerful and full of cranberries and spice. The fruit is top quality, bright with cherry notes. It dances in your mouth.

I like the label too – red with silhouette carousel horses and fireworks in the sky.

Ratings:
Overall – 9.9/10
Color – 9/10
Nose – 10/10
Drinkability – 9.8/10
Packaging – 9.5/10
PDS* – 10/10

top ten update

Two new entries this week, with the worst song on the chart (Maroon5) being replaced by, uh, the new worst song on the chart (Mario), and one of the more interesting songs (Eminem) being replaced by one not quite as interesting

delay rule vote

Thursday, November 18th, 2004

some of these congressmen are not like the others–can you guess which ones?

Cause they sure as hell aren’t going to tell you. Check out Josh Marshall’s site for the latest shenanigans regarding the “DeLay Rule” vote. Why, it almost makes you think that half of the Republican House Caucus was in the closet, er, I mean cloakroom, when the vote was called.

Bush and turkey

i’ve got a mandate, dammit, and i’m gonna use it

Instead of pardoning this year’s Thanksgiving turkey, Bush chokes it to death with his {{popup bushturkey.jpg ‘Bush & Turkey’ 183×260}}bare hands, smiling all the while. We know how that feels, don’t we?

republican rule changes

There are criminals, and then there are republican criminals

The kind of political shenanigans that would have made H.L. Mencken shake loose his cigar ashes in laughter. Who do these guys think they’re fooling? (link via TPM)

overreaction

Nice to see, after all these years, that a little Dylan can still freak people out–especially when channeled through a bunch of high school students.

republican switch hitters?

another modest proposal

Of course, there’s also the option of large numbers of moderate Republicans becoming losers, too (either as Democrats or as Independents).
