The year continues to start slowly slowly slowly as, once again, nothing new appears in the top ten. All the same, this is already starting to look like an interesting year. How can I tell? Dragonforce, that’s how I can tell. They’ve been around for almost a decade, but their new single, “Through the Fire and Flames” (currently available for free on the band’s website), debuting at 86, is their first Hot 100 entry, and the first contender for most insane record of the year. Try to imagine, if you will, sword and sorcery rock under the influence of early 90’s techno, like something off of Best of Techno, Vol. 3 played by Styx. Doesn’t sound like they’re using drum machines, either, which means their drummer may have the fastest hands since Dee Dee Ramone. Somebody who posted their video on YouTube describes them as the “second fastest band in metal”. I’m not sure I’d want to know who’s faster.
